Westport police used a Taser early Friday in the arrest of a 41-year-old Weston man who led them on a foot chase after being stopped for speeding.
The incident began shortly after midnight when Officer Howard Simpson stopped a car for speeding near Bridge Street, police said. As he approached the vehicle, it took off at a high rate of speed.
After turning down Strathmore Lane, a dead end street off of Kings Highway South, the driver fled the vehicle and led the officer on a foot chase through a back yard, police said.
The suspect, identified as Thomas Patterson, was successfully taken into custody after the use of a Taser, said police, who added that he later refused to submit to a breath test.
