The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Westport and area until 7:45 p.m.
It said at 7:03 p.m. National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.
This storm was located 6 miles northwest of Southbury or near New Milford and moving southeast at 35 mph.
In addition to large hail and damaging winds, continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm, the Weather Service said.
