Westporter James Blake, the former tennis star, said today he was home in Connecticut last week and did not know the family killed in a triple murder-suicide at his Florida mansion, which was destroyed by fire.
Speaking to reporters in New Haven at a tennis event, the 34-year-old ex-pro said he “didn’t know” Darrin Campbell, 49, who authorities said shot dead his wife and two teenaged chidren before burning down the rented Tampa-area home early on May 7.
It was the first time Blake has commented publicly on the crime.
“I’d exchanged a few emails with the lease agreement, never met them face to face,” Blake told reporters at the Connecticut Tennis Center in New Haven at an event promoting this year’s New Haven Open.
