The plaque signifies their 31 Silent Grove North house, near Cross Highway, was constructed in 1937 by Edward S. and Emma L. Gartrell who purchased the property from Edna C. Wakeman, wife of Wilbur C. Wakeman.

According to Weingarten, the property was part of the Wakeman Farm and was formerly a sheep meadow. The Rudens said they purchased the house on May 25, 2000 from the Adrienne Frank estate, the Franks, now deceased, having lived in the house for 50 years.

When the Rudens moved into the historic house they were no strangers to the neighborhood.  Jeff Ruden said in 1969 he, as a 5-year-old, and his parents, Morton and Carole Ruden, moved from Far Rockaway, N.Y. into the house next door at 29 Silent Grove North.
