Westport firefighters tonight quickly extinguished a small fire in a first floor bathroom of a commercial building on Post Road West.
The department received a call at 8:56 p.m. that there was an odor of burning at 55 Post Road West, said Lt. Joseph Izzo.
While other companies were working at a multi-vehicle crash on I-95, responding units were met by two employees who stated they smelled something burning in a back stairwell of the building, he said.
Firefighters found and extinguished a small fire in first floor bathroom, Izzo said. Smoke was ventilated using fans and the fire was investigated by the Westport Fire Marshal’s Office. The cause was determined to be a door that was propped open against a wall-mounted heater, Izzo said.
