The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for Westport and area in effect from midnight tonight to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
It said wind chill values would be generally 15 below in the area. Winds will be west 20 to 35 mph with gusts 40 to 50 mph, the highest along the coast and higher elevations.
Temperatures will drop to the single digits tonight and rise only to 8 to 13 above on Tuesday.
A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in frostbite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
