The latest projected track of Hurricane Earl. National Weather Service map.
A tropical storm watch remains in effect for an area extending from New Jersey to Mass. as Earl is predicted to pass off the southeast Connecticut coast late Friday and early Saturday morning. Forecasters said winds with gusts of 45 miles per hour can be expected.
“Preparations should be made as soon as possible before conditions deteriorate,” the advisory said. “Keep informed while listening for possible warnings. Secure loose outdoor objects which can be blown around.”
The advisory said the chance for tropical storm conditions is 41 percent. “This represents a general steady trend since the last forecast,” it said.
