Obama Names Gina McCarthy as EPA Admnistrator

President Obama today nominated Environmental Protection Agency official Gina McCarthy as EPA administrator. McCarthy served as head of Connecticut’s Department of Environmental Protection from 2005 to 2009 and made numerous visits to Westport during that time, including several appearances before the Y’s Men of Westport and Weston, the last in 2009 (above). In a statement, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said: “During her tenure as Connecticut’s Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Protection, Gina McCarthy was a fierce advocate of the state’s natural resources—her legacy of environmental protection continues to this day in the programs spearheaded by DEEP. Connecticut’s loss has undoubtedly been the country’s gain—Gina’s tireless work to improve air quality and slow climate change has made an important impact in Washington and across the globe.
