Zara, a German Shepherd and formerly a Guide dog, owned by Claudette Tallon, gives a youngster a kiss as she reads to him today during the Westport Public Library’s “Reading to Rover” program. Sponsored by the library under the supervision of Lynne Perrigo, the program involves many “therapeutic” dogs who are trained to be calm and loving. They are often taken to nursing homes and similar places to bring some joy into the lives of those who live there. They sat patiently as the children read stories to them.
