Westport Voter Turnout “Light But Steady”
UPDATE Westporters went to the polls today in sunny, autumn weather with temperatures in the upper 50s in what voting officials called a “light but steady” turnout in balloting for municipal offices.
As of 6 p.m. Registrars of Voters Nita Cohen and Judy Raines said 35.14 percent, or 6,215, of the almost 18,000 registered voters had cast ballots.
“It’s light but steady,” said Raines, a Republican. “It’s about what it was two years ago in the last municipal election,” said Cohen, a Democrat.
Of registered voters, there were 6,393 Democrats, 4,946 Republicans, 6,327 unaffiliated, and 21 minor party voters. Polls close at 8 p.m.
While the automated ballot machines will speed up the count, the registrars said final results could be delayed by write-in ballots as well as the nine Representative Town Meeting (RTM) district races.
