Westport Dentist Ordered to Pay $130,000 Malpractice Claim
A Superior Court jury in Bridgeport ordered a Westport dentist to pay more that $130,000 to a West Haven woman who brought a malpractice claim against him.
The six-member jury deliberated about two hours Thursday before finding Dr. Adam Freeman, of Westport Dental Associates, negligent in his treatment of Sheryl Palmieri, 42, according to the Connecticut Post.
Freeman’s lawyer, David Robertson, said they are considering an appeal.
The trial before Judge Earl Richards lasted about three weeks.
According to Richard T. Meehan Jr, who represented Palmieri, she was a patient of Freeman’s from November 1996 through June 2000, the newspaper reported.
In 2000 he put a bridge on her lower jaw. However, Meehan contended the bridge was improperly made and caused a tear in Palmieri’s left jaw joint.
He said that as a result of the tear Palmieri suffered pain and required about $32,000 in reconstructive surgery. He said she will probably require additional surgery.
The defense said the bridge was put in within the accepted standards of dental care.
