Thomas A. DeLong II, 75
Thomas A. DeLong II, author of 10 books including “Stars in Our Eyes,” a Westport Historical Society biographical galaxy of stage and screen personalities who were former residents of Westport or Weston, died July 12 in Florida from a stroke. He was 75. ![]()

He was born in Freeport, L.I. and was the son of the late Sara and Howard DeLong.
He was predeceased by a sister, Nancy D. Whiteford. He was a resident of Southport, Palm Beach and New York. He was a 1957 graduate of Williams College, received a MA from Columbia University in 1959, and an MBA from New York University in 1969.
He worked in corporate communications for Olin Corp. and Pfizer. He was the author of 10 books, mostly on TV, radio and music, as well as four biographies of Paul Whiteman, Frank Munn, John Davis Lodge, a former Connecticut governor and congressman who was a Westport resident, and Madame Chiang Kai Shek.
He was for many years chairman of the board of trustees for the Wesport School of Music.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving on the staff of the commanding general with the Seventh Army Headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany from 1959 to 1961.
He was a member of the Pequot Yacht Club, Fairfield County Hunt Club, The New York Racquet Club in Palm Beach and Tennis Club and the Everglades Club in Palm Beach.
He is survived by his wife, Katharine; two daughters, Sarah Ingerson of Cheshire and Elizabeth Delvin of College Grove, Tenn; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Emma Ingerson and Ryder and Charlotte Delvin.
