The Staples boys soccer team shut out a tough Greenwich squad 2-0 today before a raucous crowd at Loeffler Field. The Wreckers ran their record to 12-1, and solidified their hold on first place in the FCIAC.

Greg Gudis got the first goal, early in the second half. Jairo Alvarado connected on the second. Tri-captain Alex Hoberman contributed both assists on crosses from the corner.

The defense of goalkeeper Adam Liu, plus Frankie Rende, Jack Hennessy, Frankie Bergonzi,  Mikey Fitzgerald and Alan Reiter, contributed to the big win. Staples has allowed just one goal in 13 games this season.

The Wreckers’ next game is Thursday at St. Joseph (4 p.m.)
