LaBarca, who hosted the WICC morning program since 1991 and also the popular Sunday “Italian House Party” program, confirmed today that he was told his services were no longer needed.
LaBarca, who was a frequent guest at Westport’s Italian Festival over the years while at the Westport and Bridgeport stations, said he loved his fans dearly and was sorry he did not get a chance to tell them goodbye.
“My fans were family,” he told News-12 Connecticut at his Stratford home. “They were brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, and I’m going to miss them.”
News-12 reported that LaBarca was dismissed “after a client complained to the station.”
The Connecticut Post in a story on its Web site quoted Curtis Hansen, WICC’s operations manager and program director, as saying: “John’s not here anymore. It had to do with some personnel issues.”
