Congressman Jim Himes used his first day in office representing Westport as part of the 4th Congressional Distict to honor Westport’s own Paul Newman.
Himes co-sponsored a resolution Tuesday honoring the life, achievements and contributions of the actor and philanthropist who died at his Westport home on Sept. 26, 2008. (See WestportNow Sept. 27, 2008)
Himes was one of a dozen original co-sponsors of the resolution that was introduced by Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn.
Cohen, a longtime admirer of Newman, wanted to honor him when he died but said Congress was out of session at the time. He decided to introduce the resolution when the 111th Congress convened and invited Himes to be one of the co-sponsors.
