Famed Sportswriter Frank Deford Guest at Sunrise Rotary
![]()
Famed sportswriter Frank Deford, a longtime Westporter, addressed today’s meeting of the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club. The senior writer at Sports Illustrated and regular contributor to NPR’s “Morning Edition” covered a wide range of sporting topics. He said Arthur Ashe was one of his most admired sports figures and that it would be “disgraceful” if Barry Bonds passes Hank Aaron in the all-time home run list. Deford noted that the U.S. soccer team was fifth-ranked in the World Cup but warned that an American triumph in the competition would cause strong anti-U.S. feelings.
