Donna J. Maykut, 69
Donna Joan Lomme Maykut of Milford, a former Westport resident, died Jan. 11 at Smilow Cancer Center at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a two-year battle with cancer. She was 69.

The wife of Alexander Guthrie was born Dec. 22, 1943 in Westport to Donald “Red” Lomme and Aline Lomme. She was raised in Westport where she was a 1961 graduate of Staples High School. While in elementary school, she posed for Westporter Dorothea Cooke Gramatky for a cover illustration for Jack and Jill Magazine.
Her first husband Kenneth Maykut pre-deceased her in 1998.
She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Eastern Kentucky and her Master’s Degree from the University of Bridgeport.
She was a retired teacher who not only loved her job but all of the students she taught throughout the years.
She taught at Franklin Elementary School (Bridgeport) from 1967 to 1970, Melissa Jones Elementary School (Guilford) from 1970 to 1981, Grovetown Elementary School (Grovetown, Ga.) from 1985-1987, Harding High School (Bridgeport) from 1987-1988, Tracey Elementary School and Wolfpit School (Norwalk) from 1988 to 1989, Roton Middle School (Norwalk) from 1989 to 1994, Watertown High School (Watertown, Conn.) from 1994-1997, Tubman Middle School (Augusta, Ga.) from 1997 to 2001, and East Shore Middle School (Milford) from 2001 to 2009.During her career she also taught classes at the University of New Haven and Voorhee’s College in South Carolina.
Survivors include two brothers Peter Lomme of eastern Connecticut, and Terrence Lomme of Essex, and a sister-in-law Bette Lomme also of Essex, as well as two sons, Kenneth Maykut of Norwalk, and Jeb Stewart Maykut of Brooklyn, N.Y., a niece Wendy Lomme of Seattle, Wash., and two stepdaughters Michele Noble of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., and Meredith Lodge of Unionville, as well as three grandchildren, Thayer Noble, Alexander Noble and Lulu Lodge. She also leaves behind two cats Marley & Belle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 10:30 a.m., (meet directly at church) at St. Mary’s Church, 70 Gulf St., Milford, with interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Stratford.
Friends and family may call on Wednesday, Jan. 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St. Milford.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Donna’s name to the Momentum Fund - Yale Cancer Center & Smilow Cancer Hospital at Y-NH, 20 York St., New Haven, CT 06510.
