Cucina Modo Mio, 5 Bridge Square in Westport’s Saugatuck area, has closed. The sign on the door of the 14-table italian restaurant (whose name translates as “Kitchen My Way”) reads, “Restaurant is closed. Thank you for your patronage!” Cucina Modo Mio was the creation of Felton Weller, who has been a restaurateur in the area for many years and who owns Felton’s Fish Market in the same complex. Now they can get rid of that rusted old shopping cart on the corner they used to prop up their sign. I really hope the owners of Bridge Square can get their act together and fix the place up so it will attract new business.
I agree with Mr. Nistico, the place was a dump on the outside which made you wonder about the food on the inside.
The keen observer (or someone that gets stuck at the stoplight far too often!) has noticed that the “Space Available” sign has been removed from the window of the former Bridge Market…
Yet another failure to add to Felton Wellers list!
Everything he touches fails!
Remember when you could not find a parking spot at noon time and the line was 10 deep at the counter? I do. Pretty simple to solve, but greedy people and folks with all the answers leave us with no market and a rusty shopping cart. Progress.
As for Cucina Modo Mio I had many delicious and enjoyable dinners there and will miss it. I agree that a market is really missing in that location. Maybe when Gault finishes their construction it will be more appealing for a potential food purveyor.
I did see the owner showing the market space yesterday to some potential tenants. But like everything else he owns and the same with other landlords, the rent is too high for some food service/eateries to survive. Isn’t that what drove out Peters Market? And like Mr. Shuck said, waiting for a parking spot there sometimes was just as long as the line at the counter. It was a home run. For years! And there is no bother talking about how pitiful the Felton market was. Maybe a bank will lease it and use the shopping cart as it’s logo. “The Landlord Bank of Westport! The bank where our customers have so much money, they need a shopping cart to bring it in!”
Ms. Woods is certainly entitled to her opinion of Mr. Weller’s endeavors, but I’m surprised her purely rude comments were published. Perhaps Felton “failed” because a big, noisy Italian restaurant moved in across the street, or because personal issues demanded his attention. He has brought many wonderful restaurants to Westport over the years. Can you name them? His wife and children are also creative, productive members of our community. The two sentence comment was hurtful, had no redeeming value and could not be construed as helpful criticism. So, what was the point?
Sadly this is another sign of how the towns surrounding us are usurping us when it comes to restaurants. Fairfield is booming and bustling with a new vibrant downtown feel whereas Westport seems to be taking a step backwards.
And for the record I never had a bad meal at Cucina Modo Mio and will miss it.
I have never written in to westportnow before, but I find the above attack on a person in this forum incredibly wrong. I wonder why someone would use this forum for that purpose? (see above Kristen Woods). She is incorrect as well.
This is not the first time that Kristen has directly personally attacked others on this blog.
I find the above remarks insulting and hurtful and think that Ms. Woods should put herself in the shoes of the ones she attacks before she posts.
