Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday
![]()
About 20 children celebrated Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday today with a special program at the Westport Historical Society. Westport author and illustrator Tracy Sugarman, accompanied by his wife, Gloria, talked about his meeting King in the 1960s and stressed the importance of his message of racial tolerance and understanding. He presented each child with a copy of a portrait he had done of King. Sugarman and his wife concluded the program by gathering the children in a circle and singing “We Shall Overcome.” (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Larry Untermeyer for WestportNow.com
