First Selectman Gordon Joseloff announced today that the town has been notified by the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CDOT) Bridge Maintenance Division of routine mechanical and electrical maintenance work to the Bridge Street Bridge, formally known as the William F. Cribari Bridge, which will necessitate its intermittent closure on Wednesday, May 28 and Thursday, May 29.

The swing bridge and the roadway from Bridge Street and Riverside Avenue to Bridge Street and Imperial Avenue, about a quarter mile, will be closed intermittently from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Joseloff said. Signs and markings for detour routes will be posted.
“To assure the safety of motorist and pedestrian traffic, it is imperative that route maintenance be done to the bridge,” said Joseloff. “We have asked CDOT to try to keep the bridge open during the busy noon hour, but that may not be possible and motorists should be prepared to make alternate travel plans.
“The town regrets any inconvenience the bridge work will cause. We thank citizens for their patience and cooperation.”
