Ann Duncan Laredo, of Southbury, formerly of Westport, died Feb 1. She was a month short of 90 years old.

She was the wife of Rafael, born in St Louis, Mo. on March 8, 1923 and daughter of the late Andrew and Eugenia Duncan. She was an artist, cook and homemaker in Westport for many years.

She opened an art and gift shop called Sunflower which was paired up with a local restaurant and caterer called Bon Appétit; both were open during the ‘70s. Some of Westport’s most famous had her paint furniture and other items for their homes, such as Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward.

She loved to cook, entertain and grow flowers in the gardens of her Westport home.

With her husband Rafael, she lived many years in Mexico City where two of her children were born. Then they moved to Havana, Cuba where a third child was born and then onto Santiago, Chile.

She drew inspiration from the food, art and architecture of Latin America for her own artwork and entertaining.

She graduated from Cooper Union in New York City and met Rafael on a blind date in Boston. They were married at the family farm in Robesonia, Pa.

Her sister Jean and brother Alan predeceased her. She is survived by her brother Donald and three children and their spouses, Susan Thompson (William) of Westport, Rafa Laredo (Vicky) of Daphne, Ala. and Andrew Laredo (Marianne) of Westport. She is also survived by grandchildren Karolina Laredo of Westport; Christina Muro of Durham; Willie Thompson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Marisa Beauchemin of Providence, R.I.; and three great grand children.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Monday, March 11, at 11 a.m. in Christ & Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 75 Church Lane, with the Rev. Bennett Brockman officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery.
