UPDATE (changes calling hours date) Albert J. Copersino, a longtime Westport resident died Dec. 25 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 79

Born in New York City, Aug. 18, 1933, son of the late Stanislao and Mary Copersino, he has been a resident of Westport for 36 years. Prior to retiring, he was employed by Xerox Corp. as a tax attorney and previously had worked for Cheeseboro Ponds, Bristol Meyers and the Internal Revenue Service.

He received his undergraduate degree from City College of New York in 1955 and his law degree from New York Law School in 1969. A member of the New York Bar and the Y’s Men of Westport-Weston, he was also an amateur artist, decorative wall carver and furniture designer and builder. He was formerly a member of the Tax Executive Institute.

Survivors in addition to his wife of 47 years, Betty (Gualtieri) Copersino, include two sons, Albert Copersino and his wife Katherine of Westport. Marc Copersino and his wife Michele of Westwood, Mass., one daughter, Cristina Copersino of Westport, one brother, Domenic Copersino of Flushing, N.Y., and one granddaughter, Olivia Rose Copersino. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Louise Dowling and Sister Frances Copersino MPF of the Religious Teachers Filippini Order.

Friends are invited to greet the family Sunday, Dec. 30 from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East, Westport. Friends may meet Monday, Dec. 31 at 10 a.m. directly at Assumption Church, 98 Riverside Ave. for a mass of Christian burial. Entombment will follow in Saint John Cemetery 223 Richards Ave. Norwalk.
