Air Quality Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups
The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection has issued an air quality alert for Westport and all of Fairfield County until 1 a.m. Tuesday.
An air quality alert means that particle concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.
Today’s alert means that members of sensitive groups may experience health effects.
For additional information, visit the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection Web site and click on air quality index.

How is it okay that we periodically receive alerts like this? What the heck are we doing to ourselves?
Missing from the story are details of the possible source of the high-level particle concentrations. It’s not late spring or summer, so weather should not be a factor. Is Fairfield County down wind of a power plant or other industry doing a “cleansing”, expelling build-up pollutants out into the air? I hope to see an informative follow-up piece on this from Westport Now.
