Reminder: FEMA Registration Deadline is Feb. 12
Westport Fire Chief Andrew Kingsbury and Deputy Chief Robert Kepchar examine a Westport home that is being elevated out of the floodplain. Kingsbury, the town’s emergency management director, today reminded residents the deadline to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for Storm Sandy disaster assistance is Feb. 12, He said FEMA encourages residents to register even if they have insurance, have registered with another agency, or have filed a flood insurance claim. Residents can register online anytime at http://www.DisasterAssistance.gov or with a smartphone at m.fema.gov. Residents can also register, check status of an application, or receive other assistance at the FEMA Helpline (800)621-3362. Those who have questions about elevating their home out of the floodplain, and any assistance that may be available to do so, are asked to first register with FEMA, and then contact Michele in Westport’s Office of Emergency Management at (203) 341-5024.
