Longtime Norwalk resident Selma Ryba Yackulics, recently living in Westport, died Jan. 30. She was 92.

The wife of the late William Emery Yackulics was born in Stamford on Nov. 3, 1920, the daughter of the late Francis Ryba and Stephanie Ryba. She moved to Westport several years ago to live with her daughter, Carol Leahy, an employee of the Westport Historic District Commission.

At the age of 68, she embarked on a career as office manager for the Coastal Fairfield County Convention & Visitor Bureau at the Lockwood- Mathews Mansion in Norwalk. During her tenure there, she received numerous accolades, including Norwalk’s Most Valuable Person Award, for her work in promoting tourism in Norwalk.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, who taught us that to be happy “you have to have a sense of faith, people who love you and a damn good sense of humor,” her family said.

She is survived by her daughter Carol Leahy of Westport, her brother Henry Ryba of Greenwich, her granddaughter Wendy Leahy and her husband Michael Grand of Brooklyn, N.Y., and her grandson Michael Leahy and his wife Aimee Leahy, also of Brooklyn. Also surviving are great grandchildren Ethan Grand and Mia Leahy, and many nieces and nephews.

She was also predeceased by her siblings Mary Romsky and Rudy Ryba.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m. at St. Philip Church, 1 Fr. Conlon Place, Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery, Norwalk. There are no visiting hours.

Donations in her name may be made to the Westport Public Library.
