High Winds Down Trees, Power Lines

UPDATE High winds early today brought down trees and power lines throughout Westport. The town partially activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to coordinate the storm response.

At 10:50 p.m. Connecticut Power and Light Company said 145 Westport customers were without power, or about 1 percent of the town. As many as 4,500 customers or 36 percent were out earlier.

Wind gusts up to 58 mph were reported along Westport’s shoreline.

Schools were on a two-hour delay. Green’s Farms Elementary opened operating on limited generator power. Among roads blocked was North Avenue at Adams Farm Road, a primary route to Staples High School and Bedford Middle School.

Numerous traffic lights were out along Post Road East, police said.

These included ones at Compo Road South, the Sherwood Island Connector, and at Cedar Road.

Longshore gusted to 58mph at approximately 400AM.

I’m near United Methodist, interesting to know.  I had some good sized limbs down, didn’t lose power though, which is pretty surprising…a lovely one at that for a change.  I did hear it whip through.
