An application for a permit to demolish the structures at Westport’s 14 Sunny Lane, on the Camp Mahackeno property, is in process. Built in 1954, the concession and workshop buildings have 3,536 square feet and are situated on a 25.92-acre property. The structures are owned by the Westport Weston Family Y and located along the entrance to the Camp Mahackeno site, the future location of the Family Y. This is the Rotary Pavilion built back in the 70’s as I recall.  Many Westport Rotary Club members help build this and we had many a great time there.  That is the Rotary wheel above the doorway.  It was the tradition that when the ridge of the structure was completed someone was given the honor to walk the ridge and place a fresh cut tree branch at the peak of the ridge. I believe that honor was done by Howard Gault.  I think he was in his 80’s when he did it.  On to the future, she has served us well.

Bittersweet, indeed.  My daughter Emily spent almost a decade of summers there.

We thank the two Rotary Clubs of Westport for helping the Family Y fund the construction of a new Rotary Pavilion that will be used for years to come by campers at Mahackeno, where children like Tracy’s will be able to build new traditions and memories. Our new Y will soon begin to rise near the site of the original pavilion. Yes, on to the future!
