Thomas S. Marshall, 80

Thomas S. Marshall of Westport died Tuesday, Jan. 15. He was 80.

The youngest of three children, he was born on Nov. 27, 1932, in Granville, N.Y., to the late Harold and Edna Marshall.  He attended Cardinal Hayes High School and The Gunnery School, and was a 1959 graduate of Cornell University. 

He served as a captain in the U.S. Army and spent five years with the Central Intelligence Agency. He then worked for many years as a bank executive in the private sector, and ended his career at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

He was an avid jogger and tennis player, a student of history, politics, and business, a world traveler, and a fluent Spanish speaker. He was a member of the Y’s Men of Westport and Christ & Holy Trinity Church in Westport.  He was a loving father of a large family, a gentleman, and a friend to many, his family said.

He is survived by his wife, Nikki; five children, Thomas Jr. and Gregory of Washington, D.C., Bruce of Savannah, Ga., Francesca of New York City, and Claudia of Westport; brother Lynn of Madison, and sister Shirley Gillham of Denver; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass was held on Friday, Jan. 18, at Christ & Holy Trinity Church, 75 Church Lane, Westport, CT. 06880

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or to Christ & Holy Trinity Church.
