House Speaker Offers Compromise on Storm Sandy Aid

Washington—House Speaker John Boehner tried to quell a rebellion in his own ranks today among GOP lawmakers from Sandy-hit states by promising to hold votes soon on billions of dollars in assistance to the storm’s victims.

Boehner proposed holding a vote Friday on about $9 billion to replenish the federal flood insurance program, and a vote on Jan. 15 on an additional $51 billion in disaster assistance.

The speaker’s decision late Tuesday to pull the Sandy bill from consideration in this Congress, which ends at 11:59 a.m. Thursday, prompted dozens of lawmakers from Sandy-hit states, including some from Connecticut, to rush to the House floor to condemn Boehner.

Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., was a leader of the revolt, suggesting that residents in the Northeast should not donate to congressional Republicans because of the Sandy issue and indicating he might not support Boehner in leadership elections Thursday.

Every Republican in the country should feel deep shame over their House leader’s gross insensitivity and intentional cruelty toward people he dislikes because they come from the “intellectual east coast.”

Further, any Republican who still supports the Party should be ashamed of him/herself.

Going out on a limb, here, but what does an Alaskan fishery have to do w/ allocating money for victims of Storm Sandy?  Nothing.  Or, what does work on the roof of the Smithsonian have to do w/ the storm victims?  Again, absolutely nothing.

So, why is it that these idiotic politicians can’t pass a bill for it’s intended purpose w/o all the other crap attached to it.  All the additional crap put roughly 30 million on the bill that had no business being there, but some freak from Alaska and Washington saw an opportunity and seized the moment.  I say to them, back off and leave the victims of CT, NJ & NY the hell alone!  If you want to be angry, place the blame on those 2 idiot and anyone else who didn’t feel the 3 states hit by this disaster deserved the monies.  Write another bill for the fishery and roof!

Yea, verily, Jean; and yet, they could have passed 9 or 10 billion on New Years Day for the immediate relief (heat, electric, water) and argued over the rest later….it was 17 degrees this morning and you and I were comfortable as was the heartless bastard, Mr. Speaker.

They should have made money available, immediately, Daniel as in when Obama made his “appearance” in NJ w/ Christie and promised he would.  Of course we all should have known that was just campaign bs.

You mean, we didn’t know it was campaign bs?  Shame on us.  Now we have what we wanted for the next four years, so we need to learn to deal with it.  No sense to cry over spilled milk…or a few trillion for that matter.

Please don’t include “me” in the us group since I didn’t vote for the bozo who patently posed for a photo op during his NJ stop.  What’s sad is that Gov Christie fell for it, hook, line and sinker.  Fool.
