Susan Wofsey DeWitt of Norwalk, a 30-year volunteer Emergency Medical Technician in Westport, died Dec. 28 at Norwalk Hospital. She was 76.

She and her late husband of 32 years, Jack DeWitt, who died last June, were noted breeders of Cairn and Norfolk Terriers, and together owned 23 Cairn champions and four Norfolk champions.

Born in Stamford, on Aug. 25, 1936, to attorney Michael Wofsey and his wife Freda, she attended Stamford High School and the University of Connecticut. She worked in book publishing in New York City, and then returned to Connecticut to breed and show dogs.

She was a founding member of the Housatonic Cairn Terrier Club, and a leader in the rescue activities for both breeds. She was also a founding member of the Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Service, and an active EMT volunteer for 30 years.

She is survived by her sister Linda Asher of Manhattan; her nieces Rachel Asher and husband Andrew Kuhn of Katonah, New York, and Abigail Asher and husband Marco De Martino of Manhattan, and their children; by stepchildren Jennifer DeWitt of Phoenix, Ariz., Jeff DeWitt and his wife Kim of Norwalk, and granddaughter Michelle DeWitt, also of Norwalk.

Interment will be private.

The family welcomes Susan’s friends to a memorial gathering to be held at noon on Sunday, Jan. 6, at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Westport Emergency Medical Services or the Housatonic Cairn Terrier Club.

RIP, Sue.  You were an awesome EMT!  I’m blessed and my life is that much richer in having known you.
