Richard J. DeAngelis, 85

Richard “Rocky” Joseph DeAngelis, a retired Norwalk police officer and special police officer in Westport, died Dec. 6 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 85.

Born March 18, 1927 in Norwalk, he was son of the late Mario and Amelia DeAngelis.

A life-long Norwalk resident, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He joined the Norwalk Police Department in 1957 and rose through the ranks to sergeant.

He retired in 1987 and worked for the halfway house in Norwalk and as a sheriff at the Stamford Courthouse. He went on to serve for another 17 years as a special police officer in Westport until 2005.

His favorite pastime was collecting classic cars and he was a member of the Coachman Rod and Custom Car Club in Norwalk for many years. He will be remembered as a devoted family man and loving husband.

In addition to his wife Angela, he is survived by his son Richard DeAngelis Jr. of Norwalk and by three grandchildren, Richard DeAngelis III and Joseph and Kari DeAngelis. He is also survived by his sister Angelina Spanoghe; by four step-grandchildren, Miranda, Sofia, Luciano, and Reno; and by his wife’s three step-children, Frank, Pamela, and Mary Ann; and by several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Monday, Dec. 10 from 4 to 8 p.m.at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Parkway Assembly of God, 260 New Canaan Ave., Norwalk. Burial with military honors will follow in St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Ave., Norwalk.
