Naughton Promotes the Arts
![]()
Singer, director and Tony Award-winning actor James Naughton of Weston told the Westport Rotary Club today at its weekly meeting at the Inn at Longshore of his concern for the lack of federal funding for the arts and the increasing need for public support. Naughton, referring to statistics from the Washington, D.C.-based Americans for the Arts nonprofit organization, said the arts industry generates $166 billion in business revenues and creates 5.7 million full-time jobs. To put the arts field into perspective, Naughton, a spokesperson for the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County, said, “more people attend arts related events than attend all sporting events combined—and that includes NASCAR.” (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
