Born in Norwalk, Nov. 16, 1924, she and her husband, Louis R. Dorsey, Sr., a longtime physical education teacher and coach in the Westport school system, celebrated 65 years of marriage in July.
She devoted her entire life to the love and care of her family, raising her four children and three grandchildren. She was a warm, nurturing woman. Even the campers where she and Lou worked for many summers called her “Mom,” her family said.
She worked as a telephone operator in the early years of her marriage. She also ran the camp nursery for many years and had various part time jobs in Westport, including for the publisher Alfred Knopf.
She is survived by her husband, Louis; as well as her four children, Judith Dorsey, Belgrade, Maine, Kimberly Slimak, Newtown, Jiliane Dorsett, Austin, Texas; and her son, Louis R. Dorsey, Jr., Scottsdale, Ariz.; and her three grandchildren, Michael McAllister and his wife, Amber, who are expecting Pauline’s second great grandchild, Kenn McAllister and his wife, Jennifer, who just had Pauline’s first great grandchild, Hollie Rose, in September 2012, and Beth Gurney and her husband, Zachary, who were just married in September 2012. Her two sons-in-law, Michael Slimak and Kenneth Gomberg loved Pauline as a mother both having lost their own mothers in 1998. They both helped out tremendously at the end of her life.
She had many friends from Maine to California especially in Rangeley, Maine, where the Dorseys summered for nearly 50 years, and Westport, where she raised her family.
She and her husband retired to Cocoa Beach in 1986. Services were held on Nov. 7.
