Parks & Rec Okays Community Garden Expansion

Digg Favicon Email Favicon Facebook Favicon LinkedIn Favicon TwitThis Favicon

Westport’s Parks and Recreation Commission tonight gave its approval to expansion of the community gardens at Long Lots Elementary School.

The body granted the request with a proviso that gardeners come up with a self-monitoring plan to assuage objections by Long Lots parents to school-time use of the property by outsiders.

The matter now goes to the Board of Selectmen and approval will also be needed by the Planning and Zoning Commission.

There are about 60 plots at the gardens now and organizers want to double the size to accommodate those unable to obtain a plot.

I sure hope they put up the screening that was to block the view of the garden from out backyards along Bauer Pl

It was promised when the garden first went in and yet no fencing or trees have been planted.

Shade is an issue for a great many plots due to mature trees. You would need to thank your neighbors whom have removed trees along their backside nearest the Community Gardens in the past few years.

Well in front of our wall no trees were removed, it has been open for years, long before the garden went in.  We are tried looking out our windows and seeing the garden
