Parks & Rec Okays Community Garden Expansion
Westport’s Parks and Recreation Commission tonight gave its approval to expansion of the community gardens at Long Lots Elementary School.
The body granted the request with a proviso that gardeners come up with a self-monitoring plan to assuage objections by Long Lots parents to school-time use of the property by outsiders.
The matter now goes to the Board of Selectmen and approval will also be needed by the Planning and Zoning Commission.
There are about 60 plots at the gardens now and organizers want to double the size to accommodate those unable to obtain a plot.
