Sherwood Island Nature Center Officially Open

The Nature Center at Westport’s Sherwood Island State Park officially opened today with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Among those doing the honors were (l-r) Amy Marella, acting commissioner, Department of Environmental Protection (DEP); Westport First Selectman Gordon F. Joseloff; Mark Rickert, supervisor, DEP, and Sheila O’Neill, president Friends of Sherwood Island. Total construction costs were $340,000 with the DEP contributing $196,000 and Friends of Sherwood Island contributing a total of $144,000 from its own fund-raising efforts and various corporate and charitable donations.
