Westport police tonight announced the arrest of a Westport man on possession of child pornography charges.
A brief announcement said Nicholas Battaglino, 29, was arrested by members of the Detective Bureau and Patrol Division on a warrant for one count of possession of child pornography first degree.
“The arrest stems from an investigation completed by the Detective Bureau,” the announcement said without providing additional details.
It said he was being held on $500,000.00 cash bond pending a court arraignment.
An Internet search showed that Battaglino has had several prior arrests.
In April 2005, he was charged with breach of peace after allegedly leaving a lewd balloon at Compo Beach. The arrest followed an investigation into a number of lewd balloons that have been discovered in other parts of town, police said.
In May 2005, he was charged with third degree criminal trespass, risk of injury to a child and three counts of breach of peace involving three different incidents, included acting suspiciously in the locker rooms at Staples High School, police said.
In July 2005, U.S. Park Police in Queens, N.Y. arrested Battaglino after he told young children to strip out of their bathing suits and sit on shaving cream-filled balloons inside a bathroom at Gateway National Recreation Area, according to a local newspaper.
He was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
