Preserving Railroad History
![]()
Westport and state officials are studying ways to preserve an almost century-old railroad structure in Greens Farms along the Metro-North tracks. Officials from the Historic District Commission, Representative Town Meeting, the Fire Department, Metro-North and the Connecticut Department of Transportation met today at the vacated 1913-built structure near the Green’s Farms station to discuss the efforts. The structure supported power for the first major electrified U.S. railroad which connected New York and New Haven, according to Morley Boyd of the Historic District Commission. It was decommissioned in 1972. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
