Official results showed Lamont with 1,802 votes, or 59 percent, to U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman’s 1,251 votes, or 41 percent.
In the race for the gubernatorial nomination, voters overwhelmingly chose Malloy, Stamford’s mayor, over New Haven Mayor John DeStefano 2,089 votes, or 76 percent, to 651 votes, or 24 percent.
In the nomination for lieutenant governor, 1,730 voters chose Mary Messina Glassman to the 557 who chose Scott Slifka.
Of the more than 5,000 registered Democrats in Westport, 57.6 percent voted in today’s primary either at the polls or by absentee ballot.
Democratic Registrar of Voters Nita Cohen said the turnout was very high for a primary.
“If you get 25 to 30 percent, that is very good for a primary,” she said. “We had a very high turnout.”
There was never a large rush—including after 5 p.m.—of people at the polls, however, Cohen said.
“It was just a steady stream of people,” she said. “We never had lines, but (the polling places) were never empty.”
Overall, the primary went very smoothly with no problems at the polls, she said.
