UPDATE Colin (Ben) Gunn, a longtime Westport resident who was a fierce advocate for his clients over a long and successful legal career, died Sept. 27 in Redding. He was 91.
He was senior partner of Gunn, Godfrey and Allison, a successor to the law firm he founded in Westport in 1956, and was still practicing at the time of his death. He first came to Westport at age 9 and lived here on and off until settling in Westport with his wife Mary in 1952.
Born March 10, 1921, in New York City, he was a graduate of Mount Herman Preparatory School, 1940, Dartmouth College in 1946, where he received an AB degree cum laude, and the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1952.
He was a member of the student board of editors of the Connecticut Law Journal and admitted to the bar in June 1952. He also attended Harvard Business School, New York University, and Yale University. He received an honorary degree from the University of Bridgeport in 1994.
