House GOP Leader Demands Interim Report on Newtown
By Mark Pazniokas
www.ctmirror.orgWith anonymously sourced details continuing to dribble out about the state police investigation of the Newtown school massacre of 26 children and educators, House Minority Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr., R-Norwalk, today asked for an official interim report.
The New York Daily News printed details of the gunman’s history on Sunday. Contributed photo
Cafero was responding to a New York Daily News story about Newtown killer Adam Lanza’s preoccupation with mass killers. The latest in a series of media reports about the investigation, the story was based on a presentation Col. Danny R. Stebbins delivered to police at a conference in New Orleans.
“As legislative leaders who are working every day to come forth with legislation, I believe the state police are now obligated to brief us, given that much of what was exchanged at the New Orleans conference wound up in the press,’’ Cafero said. “We don’t have the benefit of potentially critical information that was obtained somehow by the media.’‘
Cafero said an interim report or briefing would be helpful to legislators as they craft gun-violence legislation in response to Newtown. Legislators are trying to negotiate a bipartisan bill for action next week.
