Police Seek Burglary Suspect After Chase

UPDATE Westport police today sought a burglary suspect who abandoned his solen car on the grounds of Greens Farms Academy following an I-95 chase that at times reached 100 mph and then escaped in another car stolen from the school parking lot as it was on lockdown.

Police discovered the suspect had escaped from the school grounds as they allowed a “controlled dismissal” of students and were alerted to the missing car belonging to a school security guard, police said. A police broadcast said the car being sought was a 1996 black Honda Civic with Connecticut plate 761-ZOY.

At 2:30 p.m. police issued an all-clear for the school and said normal activities could resume. They later reviewed a school security video and saw the suspect leave in the stolen car about an hour after he arrived at the school, police said.

“We are enormously grateful to the Westport police for their presence here and how they handled the situation,” said Alison Freeland, a school spokeswoman.

Police, some with dogs from Fairfield and Trumbull departments, did a thorough search of the school and its grounds, she said.
