Free Tax Help Offered
Westport Human Services Director Barbara Butler has announced that a no-cost, full service AARP/IRS volunteer tax assistance program, with special attention to seniors and low to moderate income households, is again available to the community this year.
Tax preparation and electronic filing of state and federal taxes will be offered at two locations beginning Feb. 4 until and concluding April 15, she said.
On Wednesdays, beginning Feb. 6, appointments may be made at the Center for Senior Activities from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. by calling 203-341-5099. On Mondays, beginning Feb.4, appointments are available at Westport Town Hall in the Department of Human Services from 2:30 – 6:30 p.m. by calling 203-341-1050.
Butler noted that this program is the nation’s largest, free, volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation service and is available to all individual filers regardless of income or age. She further indicated that it started in 1968, and since 1980 has operated under a cooperative agreement with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
