HDC Gives Nod to Moving Gunn House

UPDATE (clarifies vote was taken) Westport’s Historic District Commission (HDC) Tuesday night approved a developer’s plan to relocate rather than raze the 1890s Queen Anne-style home at 35 Church Lane.

According to Frances Henkles, HDC chairman, the commission was pleased with the fact Bedford Square Associates (BSA) wants to save the corner home known as the Gunn House, moving it across adjacent Elm Street street to a permanent spot in the town’s Baldwin parking lot.

According to David Waldman, BSA principal, the cost of the move for the 7,000-square-foot home, plus putting in a new foundation, will be about $150,000, which his company will incur.

“Then, someone will have to upgrade it,” he said.
