Richard Pauker, Philanthropist and Artist, 80
Richard Pauker: honored in 2010 at Arts Center gala. Contributed photo
Richard H. Pauker of Westport, philanthropist and artist who in his 40 years in Westport and Weston touched thousands of lives through his passion for and dedication to the arts, died today (Jan. 6) in Norwalk Hospital after a brief illness. He was 80.
Pauker, who served five years as president of the Westport Arts Center and was honored in 2010 at the Center’s 40th anniversary gala at the Westport Country Playhouse, was hospitalized last week after suffering a stroke.
“Westport has lost a true treasure,” said First Selectman Gordon Joseloff. “Our town and its vibrant arts community would not be what they are today without Dick Pauker. Our deepest condolences to Joyce and the Pauker family.”
Pauker, formerly of Weston, was a member of many philanthropic boards but was especially dedicated to the Westport Arts Center where he served as president of the board from 1998 to 2003.
