Newman’s Own Contributes $10,000 to Historical Society

The Westport Historical Society said today it has received a grant of $10,000 from Newman’s Own Foundation in support of its education department’s Time Travelers summer program for children aged 5 to 11, and of its exhibits program.

Newman’s Own Foundation funds will help pay for scholarships for needy children and staffing expenses for the four-week Time Travelers program in the summer of 2010, an announcement said.

The grant will also fund costs of mounting and promoting three major exhibits to be held in 2010 in the Betty and Ralph Sheffer Gallery at Wheeler House, home of the Historical Society, it said.

The Society said its education programs are designed to enrich and excite children about Westport’s cultural heritage and to discover the town’s history through interactive play and hands-on projects.
