Public Input Sought in Police Department Accreditation
A team of assessors is set to examine the Westport Police Department’s policies and procedures on Wednesday, May 10, as part of state accreditation — and public input is welcome, Deputy Chief Vincent Penna announced today.
The assessment team is composed of law enforcement officials from throughout Connecticut. Assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, and visit offices and other places where compliance can be witnessed, Penna said.
The accreditation manager for the Westport Police Department is Staff Cpl. Ashley Delvecchio.
The department’s policies and procedures will be examined to see how they conform to Tier I liability of the state accreditation standards, Penna said.
Penna stressed that the review is a voluntary process to gain accreditation, “a highly-regarded recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.”
He added that as part of the on-site assessment, agency employees “and members of the community are invited to offer comments.”
He said comments can be mailed to William E. Tanner, III POSTC Accreditation Division at 285 Preston Ave. Meriden, CT 06450, by telephone at (203) 427-2602, by fax at (203) 238-6643 or via email Accreditation.Compliance@ct.gov
Penna said that a copy of the state accreditation standards is available at the Westport Police Department, and that interested parties can contact Delvecchio at (203) 341-6039.
