Police responded at 4:30 a.m. to the Exxon station, 1510 Post Road East on a report of a 911 hang up call, said Lt. David Farrell.
They found Allens Verdier, 25, who had gone into the station store demanding a single cigarette.
“When the clerk advised Verdier that they do not sell single cigarettes, Verdier went behind the counter and began assaulting the clerk,” Farrell said. “Verdier then assaulted an elderly male in the store who was attempting to call 911.”
Verdier appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance, he said. A brown leafy substance was located on Verdier which tested positive for PCP, Farrell said.
Based on this, Verdier was taken to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation and upon release was charged with possession of hallucinogen, assault third-degree, assault third-degree on an elderly person, two counts of interfering with a 911 call, and breach of peace second-degree, Farrell said.
He was held on $15,000 bond for a March 29 court appearance.
