Smoke Detector Alerts Resident to House Fire
Westport firefighters today credited a working smoke detector for alerting a Richmondville Avenue resident that her home was on fire.
At about 7 a.m. the Fire Department received a call of an exterior wall on fire of a home at 79 Richmondville Ave.
Upon arrival at the one-story ranch, they found a moderate amount of smoke coming from the rear and attic area of the house, said Assistant Chief Andy Kingsbury.
“Initial investigation revealed an outside deck fire that had burned through an exterior wall, extended to the interior, and started to extend into the attic space,” he said.
