Westport Democrats Retain Control

Westport voters today returned Democrats to power in the town’s top spots as well as gave them continued control of all boards and commissions.

In an election that saw a 41 percent turnout, Republicans had waged an aggressive campaign to wrest control from Democrats who have held the upper hand for 12 years.

Incumbent Democrats Gordon F. Joseloff and Shelly Kassen defeated challengers R. Gavin S. Anderson and Kristin Testa LaFleur by a 52 to 46 percent margin--3,676 to 3,242--to continue as first selectman and selectman for four years. Write-in candidate John Izzo received 172 votes, just over 2 percent.

“We are grateful Westport voters have affirmed what we have done for the past four years and given us a chance to continue our work,” said Joseloff after the results became known.
